An Invitation to Dialogue on Cuba, U.S. Policy, and Global Peace
The January 3, 2026 brutal U.S. assault on Venezuelan sovereignty, which included the kidnapping of Venezuela’s president and his wife, is a threat to the entire region, especially Cuba. Cuba now faces not just the devastating U.S. economic warfare it’s suffered for decades, but the possibility of a full-scale military assault. In this context the Cuba Si NY/NJ Coalition is eager to bring truthful information about Cuba to classrooms, trade unions, and faith-based organizations. In the U.S. the historical truth about Cuba is absent, limited, or full of lies and half-truths in the corporate media. To counteract that absence, we created the Speakers Initiative, an educational project, which we are making available to you and your colleagues.
The U.S. government’s brutal extraterritorial sanctions, economic war and policies are strangling the Cuban economy and devastating Cuban families. The daily cost of this brutal policy is estimated to cost Cuba $15 million U.S. dollars a day. Cumulatively, since Cuba’s socialist revolution in 1959, that’s more than $144 billion! These anti-Cuba U.S. policies continue to negatively impact every aspect of Cuban life, creating intense hardship for Cuban working people who now struggle with food uncertainty, lack of fuel, and a lack of access to medicines.
Many Americans have responded with outrage to the U.S. economic and financial war against Cuba and currently there are 117 resolutions, representing 60 million U.S. people. In New York, Cuba Si NY/NJ Coalition’s Legislative Committee spearheaded a campaign alongside Councilmember Charles Barron’s office in the New York City Council. The New York City Resolution, Res#0285-A, which calls upon the federal government to end the embargo against Cuba, the U.S. travel ban, and to remove Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, passed in June 2023 overwhelmingly!
Our Speakers Initiative can offer honest information, open discussion and dialogue on a variety of topics, and first-hand knowledge from a diverse group of experts; activists, public educators, trade unionists, cultural workers. Within our initiative there are artists, film makers, legal workers, journalists, NY State Legislators, and students, many of whom have recently traveled to Cuba themselves and who can report back with facts and from their hearts.
On March 9th – March 20th a delegation, led by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) will be in NYC to attend the United Nation’s 70th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-70) event. In addition to attending to their UN obligations, the delegation will be available for a limited number of individual meetings at universities, faith-based organizations, and Union meetings. During this visit the Cuba Si NY/NJ Coalition is currently pursuing the prospects for organizing an International Action Conference for U.S.–Cuba Normalization, during the March 13-15th weekend, which will also be a strong anti-war and anti-intervention weekend..
