Let Us Unite in Solidarity with Cuba in This Time of Great Struggle!
Statement From the New York-New Jersey Cuba Si Coalition
Let Us Unite in Solidarity with Cuba in This Time of Great Struggle!
Venceremos!
They accuse us of what they themselves are guilty of. This is what the criminal always does. They’ll bomb you, then accuse you of bombing yourself. They’ll crush your skull, then accuse you of attacking him. This is what the racists have always done—the criminal, the one who has criminal processes developed to a science. Their practice is criminal action. And then use the press to make you victim—look like the victim is the criminal, and the criminal is the victim. This is how they do it. [Applause].
Malcolm X, Speech at Corn Hill Methodist Church in Rochester, New York (Feb. 16, 1965, five days before his assassination)
The best way to prevent aggression is for imperialism to have to calculate the price for attacking our country.”
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, January 24, 2026
Cuba Under Siege!
Since the events of January 3, 2026, Cuba is again in the direct crosshairs of US threats of quarantine and US military intervention. We are in an extraordinary period of unfolding danger in the Caribbean and across the Americas. On January 29, 2026 the Donald Trump White House issued a tissue of lies about Cuba entitled “ADDRESSING THREATS TO THE UNITED STATES BY THE GOVERNMENT OF CUBA” (all caps in document). This absurd document turns truth and history on its head! Tariffs and other penalties-threats are threatened to pressure sovereign nations to cut off oil donations and energy trade with Cuba and essentially collaborate with Trump and Rubio in the asphyxiation of our Caribbean neighbor.
“I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, find that the situation with respect to Cuba constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat, which has its source in whole or substantial part outside the United States, to the national security and foreign policy of the United States and hereby declare a national emergency with respect to that threat.
“To deal with the national emergency declared in this order, I determine that it is necessary and appropriate to establish a tariff system, as described below. Under this system, an additional ad valorem duty may be imposed on imports of goods that are products of a foreign country that directly or indirectly sells or otherwise provides any oil to Cuba. In my judgment, the tariff system, as described below, is necessary and appropriate to address the national emergency declared in this order.”
These spokespeople for the most rapacious, blood-soaked billionaires and bosses — who rule our own grotesquely unequal and repressive US society — want the US working people and population to believe that Cuba, a small Caribbean island of 10 million people, known for its foreign policy of international solidarity and medical internationalism; under sanctions and permanent hostile foreign subversion; is a threat to a United States of America of 330+ million people; 3000 miles from coast to coast and 1650 miles wide; the largest industrialized capitalist economy in the world; with many hundreds of military bases spanning the globe; with huge financial tentacles that still dominate world trade and commerce; and which has carried out an economic and political war against Cuba for over 65 years…is threatened by Cuba!! Truly, they want to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge!
Washington, under the direction of Donald Trump and his Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are ratcheting up the longstanding, “bipartisan” US economic and political war against Cuba. The aim is to asphyxiate the Cuban economy; pauperize its working class and population; and overthrow its socialist government. They would return Cuba to the status of a Yankee protectorate and neo-colony.
The Trump White House is formulating the concepts of a “Doctrine” that projects a renewed US dominance across the Americas. Back to the good old glory days — since the 1898 Spanish-American War — of neo-colonial satraps and so-called “gunboat diplomacy.” Back to the glory days of “Operation Condor” in the 1970s and 80s and US-supported murderous right-wing military dictatorships across the Americas. Back to the glory days of the dirty US wars in 1980s Central America after the 1979 revolutionary overthrow of the Somoza family dictatorship in Nicaragua — with its true legacy of gangs, narco-trafficking, and desperate mass emigration North, the direct consequences of US policy. This updating of the Monroe Doctrine with Trump branding is done with his extraordinary language of bombast and bellicose threat. But, behind the demagogy, Washington is putting pressure on Caribbean, Central American, and continental South American governments to align with US anti-Cuba policy under Trump-Rubio. They hope the coming to governmental power of conservative and rightist forces in several countries across the Americas will advance Washington’s bipartisan goals to overthrow the Cuban government and defeat – once and for all time – the example and legacy of the Cuban Revolution.
Their delusions and wishful thinking leave out, however, that the Cuban working class and people will resist fiercely and that out of that resistance will come new alliances, commitments, and arrangements from the peoples and governments of the world to come to the material aid of Cuba. Cuba is under siege. But Cuba resists and Cuba fights. It is organizing and mobilizing on every level, including military, to face the ominous US threats. Cuba “military doctrine” is based on mass participation that is integrated on every level with the Revolutionary Armed Force. In revolutionary and socialist Cuba – in the Centenary Year of the birth of Fidel Castro – the working class, the peasantry, women, and youth are organized and armed. And that should never be underestimated. Nevertheless, it is the political , including moral and diplomatic, resistance of the Cuban people and government and their grass-roots and governmental allies in every corner of this hemisphere and the entire globe that will be decisive in pushing back and defeating Trump and Rubio’s machinations.
January 3, 2026
On January 3, 2026 the Donald Trump White House carried out a murderous military assault on the sovereign nation-state of Venezuela and abducted its head of state and first lady (who was beaten). Territorial integrity and national sovereignty were grotesquely violated, justified by the most dubious, spurious assertions of drug trafficking and “narco-terrorism.” January 3, 2026 was directed at the sovereignty and independence of the Venezuelan government and state aiming for the establishment of a pliant, pro-Yankee client regime. Rubio and Hegseth secured the shameful support of the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and its Puerto Rican colony for staging areas that were crucial for the January 3 Yankee assault. Trump’s public statements are purposely provocative and bellicose in claiming Venezuelan oil fields and infrastructure for US capital and himself as the “King” who is “running” Venezuela. This is another Trumpian illusion.
The consequences of this cowardly act of naked imperialist aggression are now unfolding in Venezuela, across the hemisphere, and internationally. Trump-Rubio and their apologists purposely flaunt “international law” — as well as the US Constitution — as they arrogate unto themselves the role of judge, jury, executioner on land and on sea. These modern-day colonialists see themselves as Viceroys and Imperial Overlords across the Americas. Submit to US Capital and the prerogatives of the US ruling billionaires or we will pulverize you and your sovereignty; we will exploit your national patrimony for the benefit of Empire.
Cuba Si NY/NJ says loud and clear that now is the time for the broadest unity to isolate and smash the bellicosity of Trump, Rubio and their allies! Now is the time to promote US-Cuba Normalization; To Demand an End to US Military Intervention in the Americas; And to Defend Venezuelan Sovereignty. We urge immediate united protests with the perspective of united, broader, much larger local, statewide, and national mobilizations. We urge strong participation from anti-intervention and Latin America solidarity activists with our materials in mass anti-ICE and immigrant rights protests. These issues are permanently interlocked. US economic domination and military interventionism in the Americas is an extension of US domestic policies against the working class as a whole, against Black and Brown people, and against immigrant workers.
