Cuba, the UN, and Washington’s Fear of a World Saying “End the Blockade”

It is disgraceful, dishonorable, and reprehensible that Mr. Waltz, the US representative would introduce Orlando Gutiérrez Boronat at the United Nations. To me, this looks like a desperate and reckless attempt to influence the upcoming vote on the U.S. blockade against Cuba.  Mr. Waltz is treating this platform as Washington’s Political Theater!

The United Nations should be a place for serious diplomacy, respect for national sovereignty, and honest discussion of policies that affect millions of human beings. Using that platform to promote a political agenda against Cuba deserves scrutiny and condemnation.

Where are the voices of the Cuban families who want to live without economic pressure, hostility, and the constant threat of further hardship? Where is the concern for children, the elderly, and patients whose well-being should matter more than any political victory?

What is the United States so afraid of? An open debate? An independent Cuba? Other nations exercising their sovereign right to reject U.S. policy?

If Washington believes its position is just, it should defend that position openly, answer for its consequences, and respect the judgment of the international community. The Cuban people’s lives and future should never be treated as instruments of political pressure.

As a Cuban American, I want dialogue, peace, and normal relations between our countries. I want policies that allow families to thrive and nations to resolve their differences with dignity. This spectacle moves us further from that goal.
